About Insect Museum
The insect museum is located at the Department of Plant Pests and Diseases, Faculty of Agriculture, Gadjah Mada University. This museum holds various collections of insects that have been identified according to order, family, and species. These insects collection are useful in activities related to agricultural entomology, which includes the role of insects as pests, predators, parasitoids, pollinators, decomposers and scavengers. The insects stored in the museum consist of 12 orders, 60 families, and 878 species, while the number of specimens stored since 1921 has reached 2,961, meaning before Indonesia's independence day. Several specimens have been damaged and replaced with new specimens of the same species. Insect collections were obtained from student activities related to academic assignments as well as research activities by lecturers of the Department of Plant Pests and Diseases.
